PhD Scholarship FAQ's
It has been over 5 years since I obtained an Australian Bachelor’s Degree with Honours (or equivalent qualification), during this time I have been pursuing specialty medical training, am I still eligible to apply?
While we do require individuals to have recently completed their Bachelor degree, this does not make you ineligible to apply if you have been doing further medical training since graduating.
I'm an international student, am I still eligible to apply?
Unfortunately the scholarship is only being offered to Australian citizens or holders of permanent residency status at this stage.
I'm currently in my first year of my PhD, am I still eligible to apply?
No, the scholarships are limited to new students commencing their studies in the year of the designated funding round.

Do I need to include references in the background section of my proposal?
Yes.
You don’t need to be accepted for admission or enrolled into a PhD at the time of submitting the scholarship application. You do need to meet all the requirements for admission into a research higher degree program at your prospective university and your application must be signed off by the research grants officer delegate who is authorized to certify funding applications.
The supervisors report needs to be completed by the primary supervisor.
The referee report can be completed by one of your other supervisors if they are qualified to speak with knowledge about your work during the qualification or work experience most relevant to the research program you are intending to undertake and on your capacity for research.
Yes, that is fine as long as it is a university publication.
No.
Whilst electronic signatures are accepted, original ones are preferred.
Project proposals in which consumer research partnerships are not appropriate or do not offer any benefits will not be penalised in any way during the review and selection process.
No. One referee report, the supervisor report, is to be written by your primary supervisor and one referee report should be written by someone who is qualified to speak with knowledge your work during the qualification or work experience most relevant to your prospective project and your capacity for research, but who is not a prospective supervisor.
No. The MOVE PhD scholarship is for salary support. Funding support for the research project including consumables, services and travel to conferences and thesis allowance must be obtained either by the applicant as a top-up scholarship or may be offered by the university or industry partner in the case of specific projects.
No. Currently MOVE does not offer part time scholarships.
There are a number of valid reasons why a student may wish to defer his or her scholarship which include but are not limited to:
- receiving other grant funding
- the student experiences unexpected illness or accident which prevents him or her from working
- the student's immediate family member (children, partner, and parents) experiences an unexpected illness or accident and requires full time care by the student
